THE GOSPEL MESSAGE

What it means to be a Christian

In today's culture and generation, the term "Christian" can mean many things. One of the most sobering verses in the scriptures, God's Word, is found in Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." There is perhaps no greater delusion than to rest in the belief that you are in right standing before God when in truth you are in grave opposition to His will and authority; our hope of eternal salvation is not a concept that we can be casual or misinformed about. There is a wide range of beliefs and ideas surrounding who Christ is and what it means to be "saved." In John 14:6, Jesus said of Himself, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Heritage Church has an unwavering commitment to preserving the truth of the Gospel without compromise. We hold fast that it is through faith alone, by Grace alone, in Christ alone, that we can be reconciled to our Creator. It is this truth that drives the vision and focus of Heritage Church.

The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness and perfect obedience to God; In living that life of perfect obedience, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and the righteousness of God. By His death and Resurrection, He secured the hope of salvation for mankind and reconciliation between God and his creation. This free gift of salvation should lead us to gratefully surrender to living out the Love of Christ and obedience to His Word. As Christians, we are to pursue holiness, embrace sanctification, and desire the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
